tax hike?

hey everyone,
i have a 300tdi 1997 90 hardtop. (dfender obviosuly)
any idea wat the new car tax band changes will do to my car tax?at the mo its classed in the
over 1549, £185.00 a yr band.Over 1549

will the C02 mg/km affect the defenders in the future, or is it jus relavent to NEW cars?
i'm ****e wiv figures so if anyone can give us a quick clue as to how much i'm gonna be payin mr campbell in the forseable future years

If i recall (which sumtimes is bad) then it only applies to vehicles foirst registered after 2000, thus you'll be on the £185 rate, same as me on my 85 motor. Looking closely to see if we can get any breaks for having lpg fitted (apart from cheap motoring that is )

they should, the whole reason theres sod all tax on LPG is because it doesnt polute as much.. then again because you still have the facility to use petrol they probably wont.

surely they should tax the most efficient cars more heavily as they aint paying enough tax on their fuel

Why dont they just put 40p alitre on fuel, and do away with the road tax that way those who use the roads the most pay the most, the average user would pay the same approx as road tax costs A damn sight easier and cheaper than setting up road pricing. JMHO
It would also work out cheaper for multiple land rover owners, which has to be fairer JMHO

Put 40ppl of extra tax? Yep, good idea on the face of it, but consider this:-
As a company car driver, i never used to pay for the fuel, the co did. They got the costs back by upping what they charge, as would every frim that has motors, be they co cars, vans lorries etc. this would equate to higher prices for services and goods we all use somewhere in the chain.
Haulage firms that cannot nip across the channel to fill up would find themsleves undercut by those based in calais, thus would start to go under.
Public transport, unless subject to the same subsidies as air, would go up in price (not affecting Co car drivers of course, we just nip out in the motor)
Those types who have more money than sense wouldn't worry about this, they would just employ a good accountant and find ways of bumping up their 'business milage'
The losers would be the average guy/gal who owns and drives their own motor, paying more in fuel duty, more in tescos (cos delivery cots more) and finding that motoring eats up a bigger proportion of theiur budget.

Death and taxes.........

I've heard from a mate who runs a LR dealer, that the new car VED for it's first year,for cars over 225gr, that Darling mentioned yesterday will be £950, falling to £400 in it's second and subsequent years.
He is trying to kill Land Rover off.

I use 20quid a week in me rangie, so what the bloke up the road has a micro car and uses 50 quid a week whos wearin out the road more? I still aint chaingin me car, Why dont we bring this place to a stand still till we get what we want, like the frogs do?

I have a 1.7 denzel vauxhall ashtray for the everyday car that the missus uses. It does 60mpg and we do about 15,000 miles a year in it. The road tax on that is £115 a year.
My defender does around 32mpg but only travels around 1500-2000 miles a year. I am currently running it on 33% veg oil (I will run it on 70% come summertime). I pay £185 a year road tax.
The law is and ass. Well done chancellor that makes a lot of sense.

Company cars would still be paid for by the companies, the cost of the fuel is a claimable expense against tax, they might not make as much profit they couldnot put their prices up too much as they have to be competitive, The company car doing the mileage is wearing the road out more so its fairer.
The continental trucks coming in could be charged a surcharge on the amount in the tanks as used to happen going into Germany from Holland , they would also have to buy fuel here and would pay for the damage they cause to our roads, they pay SFA at the moment , try driving thru switzerland with a truck without paying .
They could quite easily give a rebate to public transport, I believe rail dont use full excise diesel at the mo. JMHO
