sorry to bring up an old subject...

The geezer you need to contact at landrover is called Mr Eric Pagan, you need to speak to him on the phone and he will ask you to send a check to landrover club ltd for 15 pounds. he is the only dude that holds all the original documentation for old landys. once the check and the copy of the log book has been received he will research and either send you a nice landrover headed paper saying yes ma man this vehichle was made in ... or he will send you the check back (i told him to keep the cheque anyhoo for his efforts).

he is genuine and has helped two of my mates get their vehicles tax exempt already, i am currently waiting for a reply from him.

if ANYONE wants the contact details please pm me and i will get them to you asap.

This is interesting as last time I spoke to DVLA, the woman told me that the exemption no longer exists! But from posts here it plainly does.
Another thing to watch is that (I work in law) I used to often see exempt vehicles getting fixed penalty notices for failing to display excise licence - invariably they would say that they were exempt - but they were exempt from *paying*, not from displaying one, as of course it was used as a way of ensuring you had MOT & insurance each year - so although they got them for free (I presuming this is still the same?) some thought it meant they did not even have to apply for one - which in those days meant it cost them £30 to find out they were wrong the hard way!

I'm doing the same with mine; ring Gaydon - 01926 645076. The bloke is incredibly helpful - told me the date mine was completed, and the date it was despatched to its first owners, for nothing; although of course you'd need documentary evidence for the DVLA. Stops you spending money when you don't need to ie if your veh is older than '73 you're onto a loser.

Defoe, interested in what you said. Does your man Pagan do Series 3s? I am trying to find out what VRNs my landrovers should be - one doesn't have one at all, and the other's vrn isn't regisered with DVLA, and its close to 1973.
Grateful for his contact details.
