After a recent trip away of 5 days from my Freelander I came back to find my tailgate functions not working properly. That is - the rear window will not go down via dasboard operation or by remote key access and the rear window wiper does not work using either using the dashboard control switches. As a result of this I am unable to get into the vehicle via the tailgate section. When I lock the vehicle using the remote key the alarm sounds briefly too, which doesn't usually occur. I have checked the fuses but they appear OK.

Would anybody have any suggestions at all of how I might resolve this?

Much appreciated!

Svenny!

As the alarm sounds briefly it indicates the car 'sees' one of the doors not closed. (But than, why not the red "door open" alarmlight on the dash?) I think you have a three doors ? If yes it might be the sensor on the reardoor which is either faulty or not giving contact anymore (moved?) which let's the car think it is still open and therefore does not order the rear window to lower a couple of centimeters as for the car it still is open?
Did you already try, by putting the key in the reardoor lock and hold it turned to the right, to lower the window this way ? If no good maybe disconnect the battery for a short period makes the rear window to lower when power is restored I believe. But than both keys (main and spare) have to be calibrated again by pressing quickly 5-6 times either of the buttons, I always use the 'close' one until I see the alarm is switched on, don't forget to do the same with the spare key as well. (Just thinking, so all this might as well be complete b...s...., sorry for the troubles and good luck).

I agree with the Willo think he,s right on the money, after the Willo re set ,try to locate[think its a sensor] in rear door compartment.not 100% sure bout it. . . Ming

Thanks ming, willo and Treev150 for your comments and contributions.
My Freelander is 5 door diesel. I have tried putting the key in the reardoor lock but nothing happened. There appears to be no power to the reardoor. THe red 'door open' alarm light on the dash board does not light up at all either. I will try disconnecting the battery today!

I have tried to look a previous comments on the forum but there does not appear to a similar situation where all electrics on the reardoor were at and further they could get open the reardoor still. Is it possible to open the reardoor some way at all?

There can be a problem with a lever in the latch which operates the switch. This can result in the switch thinking the taildoor is closed when it is open. It is a very simple fix,
With the latch removed, you will see a whte lever that moves as the latch claw is rotated from the open to closed position. It moves between the first and second "click" of the latch. When the latch is released, the lever should move back again. Sometimes it does not as the end of the lever catches on a burr on the latch plate. Simply remove the burr and all will be well.

Is it possible that the rear door electrics are on a multi-plug?
And this plug is coroded?
I haven't looked and it's freezing outside.

Same problem here. window wont drop when i go to open the taildoor. no wiper working, and the switch in the cabin only bleeps when i try to put it down. it just seems as it all power has been cut off to the tail door. i must check and see if the number plate lights are working!

ok found my problem. the window cable has snapped. and the car must think the window is down which is why the wiper aint working, spraying or heating. but im suprised that the window hasent fallen into that door????
