Having an intermittent fault with the lock for the top tailgate. Sometimes it locks and sometimes it doesn't. Is it time to replace it or is there a fix ? Ta
Check the button and the connector, it corrodes and causes strange happenings.
Hard to see the corrsion in the connector.
Not locking can be down to a broken piece of plastic in the catch.
Thanks Tony, it does lock sometimes and if I operate the lock with a hook instead of the top tailgate it will lock. The next time I close the top tailgate it locks as it should but if I open it again it may not. I will have a proper look tomorrow, strip it down and see if anything is broken in the locking mec. and recheck the button and contacts. Cheers
Got a problem with mine too - the top right doesn't always open, press button and sometimes takes 5 goes to hear the click for catch to open top right, sometimes doesn't open at all
I've oiled it a few times , I did try taking it off to take it apart and clean it, took the 2 bolts out but couldn't see how you get the metal rod out to free it , didn't want to break it so put it back on , worked great for a bit then started again , how do I fix it ?
That to me sounds like the button or electrical connector to the release solenoid
How do I go about fixing it ? The button seems/sounds like its operating ok, you can hear the "click" at the top right catch when it opens, or no click when it doesn't and you have to keep pressing it, I'd like to get it sorted
Had a look and took the actuator out it all seems to be operating fine although I've not got another truck to compare it too, when it won't unlock - you can hear the button and actuator working anyway, it wouldn't unlock when I tried 1st time ,, took a few goes with a couple of mins gap in between, after I'd had a look and re oiled it (it had a good looking gold grease around the moving bits anyway) it seemed to work fine everytime
But ..bet your bottom dollar at the next time or mostly the most important time il need it to open it bloody won't !!!
