Hi everyone, I hope this is the right place to post this.
I have a 2017 Disco 5, and it's been excellent. However, recently I have started to have issues with the powered tailgate.
It started with a spell of cold weather, the door started to creak when opening, I noticed the sleeve on one of the struts had worked loose. I put the sleeve back into position and lubricated it with a bit of silicone spray.
Since then it's continued to work fine.

In the last few weeks, the door opens fully, then drops down about 6 inches.

Had anyone had similar issues with a D5 tailgate?

Try recalibrating, if that fails then you need to be able to read live values from the struts to determine which one 'thinks' you're manually lowering the liftgate or is drawing excessive current.
"A hall sensor, located in the spindle motor, monitors the speed of the motor.
If the speed decreases below a set threshold, indicating an obstruction and
increasing the motor current draw, the power feed to the motor is reversed
causing the tailgate to move in the opposite direction of travel.

The amount of travel in the opposite direction, before stopping, is
determined by the hall sensor count."

Equally, it could also be related to a discharged / low capacity 12V battery.

Jeezo!
I am so glad I still have hands, arms and eyes so I can pull my Disco 2 tailgate open then shut it afterwards.
So much of modern tech reminds me of "Dark Star".
We'll all end up surfing towards asteroids!
(Must get a DVD of that!)

It does make things easier, particularly if you have to load 2 x >40kg dogs in the boot, both wanting to explore further rather than do as they're told!
Maybe that level of convenience isn't for everyone, but if you have it, generally you want it to work - autostop being the exception!

I have to admit, manual is much more reliable. While the powered tailgate is useful, the electric seats are more of a nuisance. My kids and their mates are always trying to mess with them.

Thanks Graculus, I'll see what I can find later. 👍
