looking for a split charge system that doesn't cost a ton. have seen the t-max at a reasonable price. has any one got one and are they any good?

post a link.

Xeng split charge has worked well for me and others. £45. A highly rated relay means that charge is not restricted. what are you running to require a split charge? and what rateing is your alternator?

I would be very wary of the x-eng relay rating, its a little "generous" tbh. Would be fine to just charge a second battery run aux lights etc, but not good enough for a winch "imo", its only rated at 100 AMP.

The T-max system "basically" uses a winch relay / solenoid, so it "should" be up to what ever job you throw at it.

where'd you get 100A from ? - it's rated at 180A continuous - which is more than enough to charge any vehicle battery - most vehicle alts aren't rated at much more than 100A anyways

hi
300tdi i bought has a T max split charge system don't know if got a fault or is wired wrongly as i don't have instructions - anyone got a copy.
As i understand it it should link batteries after after 5 mins but it seems to do it straight away - which if main battery is OK i suppose is fair.
But main problem seems to be that batteries are permanently linked so twice now i have flattened both - thinking i was "safe" and could link batteries and get my self started if i flattened main one etc
First happened while camping just running a fridge but flattened both. second was after heavy winching although i had engine ticking over - its a beast of a thing i inherited as well (champion 15000) again no instructions but presume its going to use some oomph.
Tested batteries with volt meter ( but really i am far from competent in electric dept) both read 12.5v when charged. Charging seems to be 14.2 v approx which i believe is ok.
.
I think its possibly wired wrongly anyone got any ideas??
found another link with similar problems - anyone else?

My solenoid kicks in after 10 seconds and charges both batteries permanently.
The overide switch links the batts for discharging ie winching.
The overide automatically goes back to manual after a set time that I can't remember.
Both batts receive a 14v charge.
I can look at my wiring tomorrow if you want...
