Afternoon guys,
Been trying to sort out a recent death wobble, found my nearside swivel pin to have play in it. Anywho, removed the top pin and the inner part of the bearing came with the pin, and a whole bunch of the rollers fell into the swivel housing. Just wanted to ask what my options are, is the bearing wrecked or could I put it back together? Just don't want to waste taking the swivel apart to retrieve the rollers if I can't actually put it back together.

Fun fun fun :(

is yours 200 as they should have bush and pin at top 606666 bearing at bottom,300s have brg top and bottom as rrc and disco,you will need to strip back to fit bush/brg,no need to ever remove bottom pin brg can be changed housing removed with pin in

Here to fix my problem again James, bloody star! Anywho, mine is on the changeover year between 200 and 300. Well either way, it had a center collar type thing that came out and left a bunch of what must be the rollers of the rolled bearing. So I guess its a 300tdi axle. So if that's the case, should that top bearing split into bits like that? Just trying to work out whether its worth trying to find the bearing rollers and piece it back together or if that's a lost cause.

Morning guys, gonna have a shot at putting the old bearing back together, I'm hoping all the pins are in the swivel housing. I've never worked on the swivels before so how easy will it be to get the pins out the bottom of the housing? And what is involved, obviously don't want to strip too much off and I'll do a full swivel rebuild another time.

good, well I'll order one now and hopefully get it Wednesday, is it going to be a massive pain in the ass to fit, ie do I need to remove the hub...etc. to do it....and more importantly how do I get the remains of the previous bearing out of the bottom?

Cheers again James!!

i reckon you will have to pull the swivel assy apart because if one of the little roller gets jammed in something it will wreck something expensive.

lYNA;;

Tbh honest i havent pulled a swivel assy apart for probably ten years now.
But i reckon on a full tear down, you may be able to fish the bits out with the swivel seal removed, but you will still need to fit the new bearing, but if the bearing track is okay maybe you could just fit the new bearing with the old track.

Cheers guys, Sorry for late reply, I've decided to order a full swivel kit and just do the whole job rather than mess about to change one bearing. If that bearing is gone I assume the rest of the parts won't be far behind. Plus I've not done a swivel kit before so its another thing I can learn to do on the Landy :D

Will let you all know how it goes!

Cheers

you would have been better ordering ftc 3401 swivel seal x1 606666g timken bearing x2,ftc4785g hub seal x1 ftc3179 tab washer x1 the bearings in the kits arent good quality, and with double brg type only 2lb pull for preload on swivel not 12lb like earlier type with top bush

Oh for christ sake, all back together, job was fine, borrowed a mates scales and torqued up the pin bolts, one of the bottom ones bloody sheared off :( So I'm going to have to take it all off, lose all my new grease, drill out the old bolt and try again, grrrr. Never easy :(

It's not a big job - follow Buster's guides and you'll have it rebuilt easily within the day.

Make sure that you have all the bits ready to go.
