Hi All,

So been having a suspension fault for a few months.

At first, Dealer said re-calibrating the suspension and looking into other possible TSB's, faults, repairs if any. Car no warranty.

I don't use the suspension modes anymore just to be on the safe side but that hasn't stopped the problem i've faced from happening twice in 3 months.

Heres what I've experienced:

> Highway doing 130Km/h
> "Suspension fault" appears (again) but this time the suspension lowers into a low rider and one bump ride.
> Pulled over to the hard shoulder (attached pics, note front left wheel going up and down on the 4x4 screen)
> Attempted to bring the suspension back up
> "Suspension slowly raising" appears
> Decided to drive off slowly to see if the suspension would react and lift to normal height
> "Do not exceed 50Km/h" appears and the suspension did not lift
> Pulled over to the hard shoulder again
> Tried to lift the suspension , message "Suspension will lift when system cooled"
> Turned off vehicle
> Back on after 20 mins
> Suspension came back up to normal height and I drove off
> Done

The recovery truck guy wasn't happy when I called him from a remote location 30 mins later saying I don't require his service anymore as he was already half way out

The second time the incident happened the same way, I just turned off the engine off for 20 mins and then on and drove off just fine.

- My compressor is loud.

So far been advised by a friend to swap out the Ride Height Sensor for the front left wheel which is 99% the cause of the problem?

The dealer is saying they have re calibrated the suspension and will swap out the Front Left Ride Height Sensor which seems to be the problem.

I have forwarded the dealer the previous TSB regarding Dryer, Valve, Relay and Software update?

Ive also read a bit about loose hose connectors (leaks), ride height sensor, bags, batteries, solenoid valve block, all play a role in the suspension fault?

Dealer is saying they've checked it all and seems fine.

After delaer confirmed that its the front left sensor as per the code received when plugged in, it was replaced, all was fine for about 2 months and then it happened again. Suspension lowered all four corners, all the way down, same reading etc…
This time cannot bring her back up…no matter what I tried…she's back in the dealer and heres the response:

Starte of Message

Workshop initial diagnostic result on the suspension issue. Confirmed “heavy air leak” from BOTH lower bellows of Front (Left) & (Right) Air springs that causes the air to escape from the system. Consequently, Suspension Compressor will continue to feed high-pressure air into the system but if such air leak is present, the air compressor will continue to operate to compensate for the air loss.

Initially, we need to replace BOTH Front Air springs and damper assembly and recalibrate the air suspension.

End of Message

I go for an inspection tomorrow.

If this is the case, why would they replace the Front Left Sensor previously…Make sure I get that sorted tomorrow!

So if the above turns out to be correct, who else has done what and how happy where they with the decision outcome to date?

Great to have you all to communicate this all too…probably would of shot my self by now given the $4K estimate from the almighty just two replace the fronts!?

Personally, I would feel more comfortable for a full assembly replacement.
Just wondering if I should do all four corners once and for all. Fronts and Rears? How long is the man hours on each side?

Miss the big girl :(

Thanks all.

The compressor is feeding a leak, thus it over heats. An air spring failing has been diagnosed so it will need replacing, they should be done in pairs, so both fronts need doing.

+1 on datatek's diagnosis, I had the same issue but your dealer in pulling yer pants down on the cost, 6000qr per side at dealer or 1600qr per side from an independent here using genuine parts sourced in Dubai I believe.

Thanks!

Arnotts? Delphi?

Just to confirm we are talking about the full air strut assembly (shock & bag)

Not sure which one's to go for..oh and manufactured or new?

Anyone with any experience on both?

Delphi are the best I would say as Dunlop have had issues with clunking noise and rebuilt ones I have only read about one person using them and they failed.
Delphi have become cheaper here in the UK and are OEM.
They are the complete strut and easy and quick to replace both sides

Also seen a problem reported with Arnotts.

Well the idea of having a some what half second hand part on a vehicle gives me goose bumps. No offence I haven't tried Arnott's even though read several good reviews.

So went with the Delphi Parts. Garage on standby for man hours, calibration & allign tomorrow early am, hope all goes smooth..

Just noticed some notes in dealers notes on the estimate:

AIR SPRING FRONT LH WASHER-SEALING
AIR SPRING DAMPER ASSY

What they on about? Are these available along with the purchased Delphi's? or do I have to buy them separate? …..Assy , Washer sealing?

Attached Pics..Thanks.

The airspring damper assembly is the strut/damper and airbag combined, the
washer is most likely the sealing washer at the top of the strut, HW1 on the attached.

Links to the complete delphi struts and washer below.

I am not convinced the struts you are showing are Delphi, although the LR032563'G' on Britcar is the Delhpi part supplied by Allmakes from their PR2 OEM range so probably correct.

Thank HC, sealing washer under a pound..our ends its a few pounds, lol..

The supplier I purchase from here deals with several sources RL, Brit Car and other well known part suppliers in the market…They have good stock for original and OEM, prices are alright, no tax on goods our ends..Honestly I don't know what a delphi looks like, maybe someone on here can share just to compare? The guy I deal with has quiet a reputation, would be sad to think that he sold me the wrong part or even intentionally..!?

These Delphi's if thats what they are feel great. Difference in drive from the original warn out to the new is firm and submarine like :) ….However steering feels about 5% heavier, negligible difference, could be the tires that need changing soon ..thats said, the mechanic left a note after the installation saying something about a "steering arm bush crack"?
I asked what he meant by that and he noted the Lower Arm Bushes. Part# LRLR018345

They haven't aligned her properly, so sent her back in, collected and now its going the in the opposite direction..:brick: …taken her in again tomorrow.

Service advisor explained that they have used the same dampers as they were fine? Confused here..? I'd be vexed if it wasn't a straight forward swap out form old to newly purchased Delphi's..Will check that too..

Total Paid:Front Left Delphi: £240 , Front Right Delphi: £240 , Installation (Fit, Align, Calibrate): £150 …..No need to mention how much the dealer quoted, jaw breaking...

The part numbers shown in the pics are for delphi complete struts from britcar

I don't know what a delphi looks like.
I still have my old ones i took off, i'll post a pic later

could also be the alignment but the broken bush wont help

Have a look at my thread from when i changed my CV joints, post 36, i had the same problem, the new suspension arms don't use the same bush i dont think but you can probably use the part number LR018345 to replace just the bush and you should get that done sooner rather than later and its cheap and easy to change. If you want a britpart one its about £8, genuine about £40 but click the link below for bush options, OEM is about £15 which is you best choice. i would also do the other side as it wont be far behind.

Britcar bush option >

That does sound a little strange as if they had bought the complete struts then even if the old dampers were ok you would still change the lot, unless the complete struts were much more expensive and they have just charged you for the Air spring (Bag)

That would be pretty good if they had replaced the complete struts as the Delphi complete struts at Island 4x4 at the link above are around £240. My local main dealer quoted me nearly £1000 to change one front strut

You will need to realign it once you change that bush so i would get that done while you are there if you can, still you are getting there, it could be a whole lot worse:)
