sun roof nicely oiled tilts ok slides back ok but when you come to shut it it closes ok apart from the clicking any ideas :)

Hi, i have the same problem with my sunroof, not had chance to look at it yet but my front passenger window makes the same noise and i know the cable is due to break any moment :( maybe same with the sunroof.

good luck with it.

cheers for that ianda the noise does seem to becomeing from the motor end.how does the motor drive the sun roof does it have a plastic sprocket or something

No I am lying you cant see the sprocket, and I dont think it is plastic either, but it either jumps the cable when it is tight or there is a ratchet mechanism in the motor. I haven't taken a motor apart .

tryed to look at the sun roof today carnt see a lot looks like the headlineing has to come down how hard can it be

if the roof is closed then the best advice is to leave closed.
There are two ways of repairing it one is to follow a post on here using piano hinges cut down. The other is to get replacemant rails £75 per side.
You remove the roof externally working from the out side and would be best to make sure the drains are not blocked and a new sun roof seal is advised. You then have to aligne the cables. My advice if the roof is shut and not leaking is to just not use it.
Allow about 4 hours from start to finish if you decide to do the job

cheers for all the replies.trouble is if the car has it i like it to work looks like its off to the stealers:mad:

Ok i understand but it will be intresting in what the cost will be i would not expect any change out of £500. Keep us informed. I would also make sure they change both runners or 6 months later you may regret it.

thanks again for the replies ive read the thread ianda and theres one bit that caught my interest the bit about thegearing in the roof motor the sound is the same as a plastic gear or sprocket missing a tooth is this possible?

The clicking is more likely to be the cable jumping the sprocket, or a ratchet mechanism in the motor, (if it has one). When the car is new, you have to hold the switch which tilts the roof open then stops, you have to let go of the switch and push/hold it again for the roof to slide open, so there must be switches in the motor or a timer to stop the motor when it reaches its limits. As mine has been apart three times this no longer happens. I hold the switch and the roof tilts then opens all in one go. When it reaches its limits it clicks and I let go of the switch. I haven't taken the motor body apart to see why as I don't mind it working this way.

how it started was jumped in car (half asleep) started up and went to grab something from centre consol and caught the switch (sunroof was closed) click click that doesnt sound good so i tryed it like i said tilts no noise slides back no noise come to close it closes fine apart from the fooking clicking not a happy bunny

no not tryed it manually will give it a try tomorrow mhm.like i said before if its got it would like it to work jonfre
