Hi all,

I was wondering if there was anyone on the Suffolk/Essex border? I'm in Sudbury, and looking for some hombre's to go green laning with.

I'm meeting up with some guys from Haverhill tomorrow (woohoo!) for my first outing on the lanes, but have no idea where they are planning to go (i think it may be Cambridge direction).

Been looking out for Byways nearby, but can't find many - those that I have found seem to be closed to vehicle access by the local councils - found this link: SLROC - Suffolk Land Rover Owners Club which was helpful for finding the ones you can't go on.

Any members of SLROC here?

HI Spike,

Welcome.

As matt says, there a few of us SLROC members on here, A number of us use the Essex thread, not a small thread as you have proberly found out now so easy to find.

Suffolk as you have already found out is a bit lacking in lanes, so a load off us play in Essex, Get in the Essex lanes Thread and get chatting, I am in IPswich myself.

Also have a look at the SLROC website, Suffolk has its own play ground near IPswich and are an active club with loads of helpful members. If your interested in off roading then come along to a driving day at newbourne have a look, untill you are a member you cant drive on the course.

See you in Essex lanes.

Hey Big Stu,

Thanks for the info - I did see some of the photos for Newbourne on the SLROC site - looks manic!! :p

I'll take a look at the Essex thread and see what's happening - I'm keen to get out there and meet up with some folks. I was due to go out with some peeps from Haverhill this morning, but after waiting around for 1.5 hours, I guess plans had changed, as no one showed! - I did find a little byway just outside my old village of Glemsford though, so it wasn't a completely wasted journey! :D

I am afraid that happens, bit of an arse if you got a jouney to the meet, be careful with just turningg up at a lane marked on the map and roar down it, make sure there are no TRO's in place before you do or it could be costly to you, fines ect.

as i say keep an eye on the essex lanes thread, say hi on there and join in with the banter

That the Pentlow one?
What was it like please?

Hi Deano,

I have heard that there are a few lanes in Pentlow and Clare, but haven't gone out there looking.

The one I found while driving around was at the end of a tiny village called Fenstead End (just before you get to Thurston End). I lived in Glemsford for 30 years and had never been to this place, which is probaby 2 - 3 miles outside Glemsford!! It's only a short byway (probably only about 1km), marked with a Byway sign and a Suffolk County Council Arrow arrow & little plaque. In wetter conditions, it looks like it could get pretty boggy - there is evidence of vehicular use (probably farm traffic).
