its not keen on starting although putting a fully charged battery on it churns over slowly but with a set of leads on it cranks fine would i be right in thinking its suffering from a bad earth ?

on to the existing battery
i thought with the extra power going through with the leads it was over coming the dodgy earth

no exageration tried 4 different batterys from a mate who breaks cars all been tested and the cars drove in to be broken so it would be unlikely to be 4 failed batterys not impossible but unlikely and the latest one is a 650a beuty that makes a spark that you could weld with

sounds like a bad earth! to me try putting a few more on :) you can never have to many earths as i have found out with series landrovers

Go around the whole circuit - live to solenoid, solenoid to starter, earth strap from starter to chassis, chassis to battery - and clean and remake everything. I've got an extra earth from the battery to the block and I've never had starter motor issues.

you could try from original battery with the leads negative to engine and positive direct to starter if this works ok then bad earths /solenoid

Yeah, that would do it. There's supposed to be a strap from one of the starter motor mounting bolts to the chassis but connecting from the battery -ve to the block would sort things.
