Windows Movie Maker insists it's an audio file and won't let me edit it as a video..............I will get there in the end.

I have proved the principle with the web cam to laptop trick, but also discovered that the software I used was not up to the task. I need to find some better (free) software.

What format did the camera save the movie?

The software had a choice, but nearly everyone I picked wanted me to download a codec, so I went for MPEG2.

The other one's that 'worked' wouldn't play back.

It was a good learning experience, but I'd rather it worked from earlier in the trip. Still wasn't right at the end, but I've proved the idea is sound.

The idea being web cam fastened to dash and connected to laptop. Recording straight to hard disk meant I could just leave it running all the way down a lane.

This is the type of quality it recorded.

The sound was horrific, and I turned it off for the rest of the recordings when I realised.

This is the shortest one that had anything decent on it - and it still could do with editing. I'll look at them all again tomorrow.

Have finally got the videos converted into a format the doesn't crash my editing software - it took 2 full days and an overnight for my laptop to process the conversions

I started looking throughthe videos, but I'm too tired tonight to look properly. I'll hopefully get chance over the weekend to have a look for any interesting bits.
