I'm helping my son in law restore a Series 3 hicap diesel. The engine stop cable has been replaced, but I can't see how the outer sleeve is secured in the steering lock assembly. Looks like there should be a tiny circlip. Any advice?

Looking at the parts book, the diesel stop cable doesn't have an outer sleeve, it just slides in the lock barrel assembly. The petrol choke cable which fits in the same hole has a friction sleeve (to hold it against the carb return spring) which sort of clips in to the barrel. You might have the wrong cable. Look in the optional parts catalogue.

I found the buggeration factor of sorting the steering lock cable was to much effort. Fitted an aftermarket universal cable through the bulkhead.

The stop cable is a Bowden cable with an outer sleeve that needs to be fixed at both ends. In retrospect, we should have just threaded the inner cable through the old outer, but hindsight is wonderful! So how do we fix the lock end??
