Hi Guys,
before I go rushing out to the garage has any body else had this problem.
The car: Disco 2004, 2.5 diesel
The back door {the one with the spare wheel attached} often wont open or when it does open it often wont lock, its a nightmare, does anyone have a reason for this or better still a remedy, or should I just hit the garage and get my arse felt.
Kev.

As @neilly has already said, check the actuator.
Unfortunately, all of the Disco 2 door latches are difficult to open up but easy-ish to replace as a single unit. One difference with the tailgate lock is that some of the operating mechanism is outside the door and can be prone to sticking due to the effects of moisture. Another problem with the latches is that each is individual to a door and they are not interchangeable.
Check that these external components are working by prising out the green oval badge from the door handle assembly and you should be able to look inside and with some spray lubricant ease the operation if it has stuck. After that, it's a case of getting inside the door itself.

Hi Kev,
If you do end up taking the door card off get some spare plastic fixings. I still broke some doing my rear washer, even using a plastic removal tool. (Or am I just ham fisted??)

Thanks Griff, maybe I should get onto eBay and try and find some of these fixings before I whip the door card off.

Great info about the Landy badge, I will arm myself with some WD40 and go for it ................ thanks.

Had similar with mine. It would lock on the fob but wouldn't unlock, had to clamber in the back and pull the interior handle. Had to replace actuator unfortunately, hope the cleaning works for you.
Easy enough to change the actuator though, easier than rear passenger door, ask me how I know

Just a quick point, I prefer to use a product such as GT85 as a spray lube (and keep WD40 as an air freshener!). Then once I've freed everything off, a quick squirt of spray grease to keep it that way.
Thanx again Brian, GT85 it is ....................

Great stuff! Have you noticed how much crap gets thrown up the tailgate from the road? My tailgate window is permanently filthy. Might be worth cleaning the handle out regularly, hopefully it'll never fail
