Since I had a new set of tyres put on the front of my disco 1 300tdi, the steering wheel has been 'off center' when driving in a straight line. The jacking was done with 2 trolley jacks under the front springs under the 'banana shaped' brackets directly under the axle ( I don't know the name) There is no drifting when I remove my hands from the wheel (like if the tracking was out).

I dont seem to recall this being the case prior to have the tyres put on. Would this have caused this problem, or am I just seeing something which was there already?

Steering wheel alignment is done by turning the tie bar connecting the steering box drop arm to the nearside wheel. Slacken both ball joint clamps and turn the rod (with mole grips), I can't remember which way will turn the steering wheel to the left or right, trial and error will tell. Keep the wheels on the ground doing this. Turning the rod moves the drop arm, when the steering wheel is in line, tighten both ball joint clamps. It is a pig of a job to get the wheel exactly centred. I don't know why the wheel should be out of line just by jacking car up.
