i know this is an on going saga for most people but i have searched the site and internet and can,t find a postive answer.

firstly the symptoms are:when i get to about 60mph the steering vibrates not really aggresive but annoying as if the wheels are out of balance but it still continues to do it at 70/80mph but not as bad.

things ive done to date:new drag links and track rods, new bushes new bearings new steering box steering pipes and pump, steering damper, new shocks and air springs, wheels balanced and swapped front to rear, full wheel alignement new u/js,new vcu in the transfer box.

the local indy i went to is baffled as to what it could be,as i have just about replaced the front end sort of speak, does anyone have any ideas please.

Not on a Rangie, but I have had this problem with tyres. All balanced up OK but still had the steering shake. Don't ask me why, I don't know. I was able to borrow a set of wheels tyres which proved the point.

it,s a 2000 p38 vogue 4.6 with 18" hurricane with 255/55r18 cooper zeon xst tyres, funny thing is it has been fine, uptill a couple of weeks ago,so i don,t think it,s the wheels or tyres as they were bought new back in august last year, but i did notice earlier today it felt as though the front was getting light,as i was doing about 55/60mph along a twisty country road.
i don,t want to put it into the stealers if i can help it not yet anyway

Most odd? It's an outside chance but have you got harmonic dampers on that there machine? If you do a search I remember a while back there was a similar thread which I think covered just about every possibility but by the sounds of it you have pretty much replaced the whole fron end.

And the thing about wheel/tyre size is that from what I understand, there have been some problems with vibrations when the wheel size is increased.

Have you tried swapping your wheels front to back? In the alternative if you know somebody who has a similar Rangie try doing a swap of wheels and tyres.

it has the harmonic damper will look into them in a bit,the wheels have been swapped front to rear after they were all rebalanced, and it did the same with a set of 16" wheels that my local indy has,as he thought the same but even he is puzzled by it,due to the fact all the things he was thinking of have been renewed.

did a search but there isn,t much about the harmonic damper, but i did find out about the swivel bearing and after looking at the rave it seems like a special tool job to check/adjust them unless someone has a tip for doing them without special tools, also could be the shock absorbers as the ones fitted are the crappy munroe which were done just before i bought it

Hi i had the same problem so when i took it in for a service i mentioned it to them { land rover specialist } when i picked it up they said my back tyres where out of shape, i swapped them from the front because of wear on the out sides, any way 2 new tyres and problem saughted. :D
