Hi. I have developed a whiney noise as I turn the steering wheel, it happens when stationary, as well as on the move. I have listened while stationary, but can't be certain where it is coming from, possibly the TDZ power steering pump? or belt? or around that area... any suggestions? thanks. Gem

Power steering on a 2a! What a wimp!:D
I'd guess at slipping belt 'cos it's under tensioned or old and glazed.

Our Disco does that sometimes and someone told me it might be bits of air in the system. It still steers and passes MOT's so I've never done anything about it. It's not the belt on ours.

Could be the pump - I've used stuff in my old Subaru that was supposed to reduce pump squeal.

It came with it... so it is used.. the engine used to cut out whilst driving,, then I knew what steering was about!!!!!

It could be the belt, although I have looked at it, it has no teeth, it is a smooth one, where would I get one?

it sounds more like a groan than a squeal though! maybe cos it's halloween? ha, I'll check the fluid level, and maybe have look at pump.. cheers.
