just a quick stoopid question.... does a steering box come into an MOT ? mine shot and mot is next month.... just need to know if i should change it or if to wait till after.... it drives like herding cats but isnt too too bad, just not great....

Thanks everyone.....

yes.
both for sloppyness in steering and leaking oil.
if its damp with oil but not dripping and otherwise ok, should be an advisory.

edit
just realised who this is - what happened to the phone call?

Yes, I purchased my '03 disco 3 months ago complete with full service and MOT from a dealer, after I did the deal they MOTd it and it needed a new steering box. Hard luck on them but not for me, they couldn't MOT without it. :D

Yep, gathered that! Just replace them is the best way. I can forgive my disco for this indiscretion so early in our relationship, she has just towed two big horses in an Ifor trailer to Newmarket and back like a dream...Air suspension makes all the difference with live, moving cargo!

Air suspension IMO is worth the hassle. I think Dunlop bags are cheaper than Continental which are OE. They seemed just as good to me, so we fit those now instead.

as far as im aware ( as long as it is not leaking ) they allow 75mm max of steering wheel movement either way before the wheels move - but i may be corrected !
