Anyone tried using this alternator in a Defender 200tdi? My standard 65 amp has just failed. Used a 100 amp from Frogs Island a few years ago and had major problems shredding v-belts but STC1753 is 80 amp. Im wondering if it will be a straight fit.

not a straight fit iirc but can be altered by undoing clamp bolts and twisting housing round so single hole sits on other side

Ok ive not done that before so if I undo the alternator housing bolts and twist the casing round is it not possible to damage wires etc inside ?

Ok sounds pretty simple. Might keep looking for a while though and see if I can find an 80 amp that would drop sraight in.

I have done this alternator modificaton on my 90/200tdi......has been working fine for the past 12 months. Be careful with the brushes, I used small wire ties to hold the brushes away from the rotor. You can then turn the end plate to the new positon and replace the screws; snip the wire ties and carefully remove them letting the brushes move back into place. You will need to drill out the the threaded hole in the end plate to allow the holding bolts to fit correctly.
