I have a problem starting my Disco 2 in the morning after it's stood all night. I turn the key and it makes a single attempt at turning the engine over. Like a single grunt then nothing rather than grunt grunt grunt then starting. I leave it 30 seconds then it fires up normally. Sorry it's hard to explain!

I have been reading a few starter motor problems on the forum but they all seem to refer to a click as the symptom not an actual single engine turn which I have.

Any idea where to start looking for the problem.

Thanks
Chris

bad glow plugs, filters and fuel pumps wont stop the starter motor working

if its not turning over properly its either battery, starter or the thick leads joining the two together...

but its. probably a dirty connection in the leads, first step is to clean all the connections in the positive lead from battery to starter and the battery neg to body and the earth lead from body to engine block....

Cheers guys will have a good look tomorrow. I had the negative lead off the battery last week to fit my cruise control. Maybe I didn't get a good connection when I refitted it.
