ever since I go t my discovery 3.9v8 sorted I have been reeeeeally impressed with the engine but have noticed a disturbing number of clunks and squeeks and rattles etc.. they may well have been there all along but would have been harder to hear over the engine.. so first of all is it normal.. do they make thesxe noises.. secondly if it isn't where should I start looking for the source of the noises.. I guess suspension and transmission but haven't figured further than that and a good hint or tip save me a few hours pulling at bits of sussy...

bit more info.. '98 3.9 with lpg se auto on insa sahara turbos recent work was head gaskets, eggsauce manifolds, MAF, dizzy, leads and plugs and ovbviously oil and filters etc.. runnng withou t a stat at the moment (actually not completely without, the stat is in the boot but not really helping there)

noises are worst on slowing down or speeding up.. pretty solid clunk when changing speed rapidly either direction and a bit of a metallic jangle on the overrun.. hard to tell where the noises are coming from over the noise of the tyres.. only other symptom is occasional reluctance to accelerate as if there's a brake locked on but no overheating of wheels or tyres at all.

Have a sniff round the handbrake drum and propshafts.

There's a lot of whirring, rotating machinery under the floor, and it would surprising if you 'didn't' have some noise!

We get a bit of a release on energy on the overrun, when the V8 finally decides to let go of the drive, but apart from that and a period of vibration at 65mph, it is very good. A bit of plastics creaking inside.
