Hi,

I have just purchased and fitted a new set of 16x10 inch modulars with 285 75s however i am a little worried about the weight of the spare wheel mounted on the back door.

Is this something i should be concerned about? If so what other options do i have available?

Spare wheel currently attached is a 15" modular with a smaller tyre.

Could you expand on this point. Specifically on the likely reduction in shelf life by deviating from design specs.

Do you think it will significantly reduce shelf life? Or likely see a gradual increase in wear over time?

I'm convinced about that as the powertrain/drivetrain was built to work with standard dimension tyres... the tdi is not so sensitive to that like a Td5 but with that huge difference in tyre dimensions i'm sure that the EGT has increased a lot

It is likely fine. People have been fitting bigger tyres than those to Discos for over 20 ****ing years!!!!!

Many moons ago I used to have a black 200 3 door, have not seen one on the road for an age.

On the door and dont worry about it, 200/300 rear doors arent rare yet.

Nick the bathroom scales and weigh one of your big wheels, then do the same with the road going wheel.
 
A lot of new cars nowadays don't even come with a spare, instead they carry a can of tyre sealant and an electric compressor, although, in my experience those cans of tyre sealant are total rubbish. With modern cars, you don't even know you have a puncture until it's too late to save the tyre.

What about the mileage will read less than actual distance covered...that is in my day called clocking if you sell it...
I don't think it was. Clocking is about changing the mileage. Not the accuracy in how it is recorded. Anyhow clocking has never been illegal. And it isn't as if any discrepancy would be huge anyway. And let's not forget, it wasn't 100% accurate when new in this regard anyway.

Wrong...changing tyre size affects mileage and speed so you have to alter recording methods...using gps is not the option as doesnt change vehicles original equipment...is a non working speedo an mot fail?...a gps reading on a rolling road is non functional...tyre size affects rolling radius which affects speedo reading does it not?...
