I have just bought and fitted a Britpart rear spare wheel carrier for my 90, took an easy two and quarter hours to fit. and looks very good.
This I think is the current nylon piston jointed operating swing system. my problem is that I cant find any way to keep the threaded spindle nut tight, there is no way to stop the nylon tube from rotating due to lack of access behind the heavy tubular unit.
is there anyone out there that has fitted one of these recent units, if so how did you solve the above, or is there something missing in my kit.
thanks regards Leemarb.

I have fitted a Britpart carrier recently. Not too sure about which part you're talking about here though - the threaded spindle nut? If it's the little nut and bolt attached to the rubber stopper that presses on the frame when the door is closed, it needs a nyloc nut (rather than the plain one supplied) or a spring washer. All the other joints should have movement in them. If you can take the wheel off and take a photo of the offending part, it will help.

Hi Zea, after posting the above query, I sent an E to Britparts, within an hour I had a return from them, answering my question, it seems that a couple of changes have been made in recent times to the mechanism of the closing area, mine is possibly the later type, ie works on a circular white nylon plunger, this is attached to a screw threaded adjusting bar, and then a locking nut against the nylon plunger, the adjuster bar is then passed though a fixed plate, and THEN another locking nut is tightened up
So making the whole unit very firm and stable, all in all, the whole unit was fairly easy to fit, works very well, and I think, looks very good, most of all though, it takes the weight of spair wheel away from the rear door. .

Thanks for your reply Zea,
