Sorting the niggles Keys, locks, and wipers

At some time the ignition lock has been changed on my 1999 discovery, which I have a cut key for ie not Landrover, and a key that fits the door with the remote fob built in as it is the original with the car. Is there any way I can just have seperate fobs to the keys?

Can the rear door lock suffer the same spring clip problem as the series one as cannot open it from the outside as they have no key lock slot so becoming very annoying!

The rear wiper only washes a third of the screen then drops below where it should making a motor type noise for a second or two.

Any help greatfully appreciated.

Jeremy

With regards to key fobs should these be obtained from a dealer or can aftermarket ones be bought, then I guess I should sync them?

When I press the rear wiper button it the motor works then after a second raises to clear a 1/4 to a 1/3 of the screen then drops to below where it should stop (almost below the glass) then the motor sounds like it is still working for a second. HTH

Don't mean to hijack the thread but I've also only got one key for my disco and it's a bit ropey looking(looks like bent in the past) so where can you get blanks from? Can a duplicate be cut from Timpsons etc or do you have to get the whole thing done via LR?
Cheers.

Yes if you have one and your old one is ok then the likes of Timpsons can copy it, they may even supply blanks, but if not I have seen them on eBay.
LR service dept can cut a new key, not a copy, based on your key number if your old key is a bit iffy.

Cheers Discool. Will have a trawl on ebay. Just checked my key - doesn't have a number on it or is this something LR would have on their database?

When your disco left the factory it would have had a number tag on the key ring and also the number would have been entered by the dealer on to a card with the other codes, EKA, wheel nut, radio but yes a LR main dealer will have the number from the LR database.

Re. locks:

on disco II when they do not open like yours with the remote or the button, then you have to change the whole mechanism in the door panel. It may only be a clip or similar fault. I do not know exactly.

I had to change 1 front, and 1 rear with 130.000 km´s.

I do not know a way to repair it. It is one "big white sealed mechanism" for each door. Some sort of a cluster.

Driver door I could open with the key, not with the remote. Rear door other side I could only open from inside. But could close with remote. Annoying, yes. They should last longer. That was 6 months ago. Now works perfectly.

Cheers again Discool(have a feeling I might be saying this a lot over the next few weeks). Looks like I need a trip to LR asap.
