A few weeks ago I was very happy when I was told how lucky I was to have one of those heater thingys that work on cold mornings, of course I have yet to find out if it works, because the weather has been so mild, but fingers crossed that it will fire up when the time is right.

However, now having the heater thingy has come back to bite me in the bum. I saw some Freelander genuine fog lamps on Ebay and had a word with Tiny if he thought they were a good deal. It turns out that Tiny had a set of the lights and would let me have them for the same price as the Ebay ones and save me the postage. A few days later they were in my grubby little hands and I have just been waiting for a bit of spare time to get them fitted, and today was the day.

If your going to remove the front bumper have a decent set of screw drivers and a dremmel is not a bad idea either, eventually I got the bumper off and then carried on with the rest of the 2 hr job

Battery disconnected, fuse box moved out of the way and then simply thread the wires through a bulkhead seal, yeah right. Thank god for model control linkages, after an hour I eventually got the wires through and connected them to the internal wiring from the kit.

Then comes the cutting bit, back to the dremmel and following the guidelines marked on the inside of the bumper I cut and file away all the plastic and then fitted the lamp holders. The bumper was them temporarily fitted whilst I put the loom in the right place and fitted the lamps. Drivers side fitted like a dream and looks good, passenger side, oh clucking bell. The heater thingy sits right behind the bumper leaving no room for the light to be fitted.

So its off down the dealers tomorrow to see if there is a shallow lamp that will sit in the hole I have in the bumper and to order a new set of screws to replace the ones that I took out today.

So there you are, something to giggle over for the weekend and a few handy tips along the way.

1) Don't fit a genuine Landrover fog lamp kit to a Freelander with a heater thingy.
2) If you are going to take off the bumper be prepared to fight the screws in the wheel wells out.
3) Before you cut a hole in your bumper check that whatever is going to fit in the hole has room.
4) Check with the dealer if the genuine item will fit all models because there is nothing on the Ikea type instructions to say it won't.
5) Make sure you have the radio code if you decide to take the battery out.

Still its sunny outside so its not all bad. :)

Thank you for the giggle. I hope you can see the funny side of it!

I always wondered why the front fog lamp option wasn't available for the diesel.

In case you don't know, the radio code can be supplied by all manner of sites on the internet (just Google "radio code" or something) or pop into your local In CAr Entertainment place.

Cheers

Blippie

Getting the code for the radio tomorrow morning from the dealer, and hopefully see if a lamp of some sort will fit in the hole.

Steve :)
