Chaps,

Did a search and couldnt find anything so here goes.

My aircon is starting to smell like a wet dog for a few minutes every time I start the car. I guess this is down to mould growth.

I have looked around and there seems to be cans of spray that can disinfect/ deodorise but from what I can tell you are supposed to spray into the inlet vents of the aircon when set to recirculate.

But where on a facelift Freelander is the intake vent inside the car?

And I suppose the other question is, has anybody tried these sprays and do they work, or is it just worth spending more and get the system serviced and regassed?

Hi!

Had the same problem with mine. 1st thing to check - is the drain from the air con blocked? If it is then you'll have a build up of water in the system....

Drain is located on the firewall (near) passenger side - rubber tube which drops onto the cross member.

Following this - does your air con run cold? If so no need to regas. You can buy a can of cleaner from tesco (cheapest anywhere at about a £5) you turn the engine on, air con on to full power fan at full and on full recirculate. Can goes behind front seat. Release the tab and let it discharge fully into the interior all doors closed etc for 10 mins. It pulls it through the system and fresens it up. You may need a couple of cans to clean it up but its worked big style on mine!

I sprayed the air con refresh stuff into the area just to the right of the pollen filter and directly into (once removed). I do this once a year and no wet dog or smelly socks smell.
