When I bought my 300 she came with a built-in kid-killer (full wrap around 'Bull bars') which I've hated since day 1 but didn't have time to sort.

Well, tonight I bit the bullet and after wrestling with some random nut sizes (4x 14mm bolts, 3 with 15mm nuts ^^) and recalling that there's little quite so satisfying in the world as the 'tink' of a stubborn nut snapping free, I managed to pry the bugger off and was just flabbergasted by its size and weight off the car. Must easily weigh over 60lb.

Anyway, she's looking fine and dandy without the extraneous steel tubing and I can't wait to see if my ride to work in the morning improves any without it (although I'm sure my monthly fuel bill will certainly weigh in my favour).

Here's a before/after.
Aint she purty now!

yeah man good effort, bull bars are very last year if youre not actually going on safari!

i just took a huge one off a defender at work, looks so much more modern!

Exactly, my thinking. Modern, clean lines re so much nicer and the disco has such a fine looking face it's a shame to hide it behind a cage.

I don't mind the centre support so much, especially if it's supporting lamps, and I do quite like the plastic moulded version seen on later D2s, but the previous owner bolted this unsightly lump on because he thought it "looked beefy". All the more reason to get rid.

I don't like them on landies. An A bar in the middle is fine but a full wrap around belongs on a Transit like mine..... it used to have a full wrap around people plough on the front but took it off as it went rusty and looked crap - now the whole van is rusty :(

the steering will be nice and light now too

I thought I was imagining it but the steering is loads lighter, cornering is smoother and she doesn't nose-dive when I brake now. Can't believe how much the ride has improved from such a small (!) change.

Yer took mine off recently (which i did put on myself but its what i wanted at the time) Now prefer the look without and as said the steering is lighter and the front sits a fraction higher giving more ground clearance. :)
