Problems/benefits/preparation for running a standard 3.9 v8 efi on super unleaded. Discuss...

Mine seems to run fine on it, but seems to create a fair bit of White 'water vapory' smoke when warming up....

just dont use shell petrol best i have found is bp last run i did up to scotland with twin axle trailer and just under two tonne constant 56 with cruise 357 miles 19 odd mpg on tesco lucky if i get 16 with the trailer

i recently put it in my classic went of song withing 1/2 mile of petrol station brimed the tank with asda special and all is ok just check out the forums on por quality shell fuel i went to scotland to sort a customer car out would not run drained the tank refilled with tesco and it started the lady is suing shell as it cost her a lot of time off work we know it was the fuel if you could get it to start it ran fine on gas

bizzare - when my V8 was road worthy I ran it on both the tesco 99 and the V-power with out a problem. Probably was more likely due to a problem at the station rather than just saying shell is poor.

where abouts in scotland?

glenrothes and the shell station on the road to the forth bridge too
the station i used was in leicester!
just google the shell fuel problem it has a major problem either a very bad batch or they have played with the mixture and it is causing engine failure on diesels and petrols

I know the one you mean - its regularly used for people that go to knockhill or crail for motor racing events

Bad batch my guess. Have used shell for years, v-power in the type r, regular in the disco, diesel in the work cars. Never noticed an issue, but not discounting a batch problem!

Btw I can't see how a (relatively) low compression rover v8 would feel the SLIGHTEST bit of difference on v power!

As I said it went off song so quick it surprised me!
But do check out the forums about shell if it is a bad batch it has to be the biggest batch in history because people are joining every day with faults

who knows, as above have been using the same few shell garages for ever, and a mate with a fleet of work vans and 5 cars in the family has everyone on shell cards.

maybe its areas? i guess the stations are franchised maybe? different garages buy different fuel?

i thought this but when i was at a forcourt garge we only dealt with the company we were a franchise for!

the octane aditives in V-power don't last long - this is a problem for some turbo'd jap cars that don't do much milage they start to pink
