Never been to this site, but I've been to plenty of others in the local area Cowm Quarry, Hill & Ditch, Bala 4x4, Tong/Parkwood, Mow Cop, Wern Ddu Farm (in the snow though), and a couple of others. How does it compare?

Not bad, better than hill n ditch and ruthin, not quite as good or as big as the rest, wooded area, few hills, bit of mud, couple of bomb holes, all in all not the best place u'll ever go, but not the worst either, worth a trip, its a change of scenery innit

its not the biggest of places, and the terrain isnt too varied but its not far from me and its better than some of the mud holes like Buildwas in the winter months

Thanks for the heads up. I went there today, I think you undersold it its a really good site. Plenty of challenging tracks and paths to try, its mainly woodland but most of the tracks are not too scratchy and the soil is mud/clay so not too many rocks or slate to dent the undersides. Unfortunately I only drove around for 2 hours until something broke on the car, rendering it a 2WD so I didn't do any challenging stuff and nursed it home. (It was the spline at the outer end of the front CVJ and driving member).

Will try to go again next month and once truck is fixed.

I'm planning to go on Sunday, 19th sept.

Just thought I'd mention it.

Cheers.

i went to the last one, managed a couple of steep climbes on the far side, then as the mud got churned up i spent most of my time being winched around the site  ive got 32's and i swear they were the smallest tyres being used at that site

Yeah its quite a muddy/wet site. I went back on 2 further occasions, both a bit wetter than last time. 2nd time I never got stuck but my friend who came along in a 110 got stuck about 4 times in the first hour and made plenty of use of his winch! It was very slippery and I managed to put a few unfortunate dents in the car, though. And last time out I got stuck twice, both silly 'stucks' rather than anything serious, due to wanting to keep up a little momentum, not stop, and having to find new paths around stopped cars ahead etc. Unfortunately I won't be there this weekend due to it clashing with an AWDC trial, but I'll try for October - and I've made a few little upgrades to the car which should help a bit.

Well, I have to say I'm looking forward to it, will hopefully be a good first time.

I like what i see on you tube, and if it is like you say it is, my diff locks might go down a treat. OR it'll just sink axle deep anyway. I have 33x12.5s which I run at 15psi usually, hopefully they will help me to float if it is really boggy.

Will have to be careful of side slopes, I have my ground anchor, and yes the winch is working.

Away we go :D

Buggering tits!

My fuel return pipe has finally rusted through, so now I have a fuel leak!

Oh well, looks like new fuel pipes, cowm next week, and silverdale next month!!

Any tips/ideas for new fuel pipes?

Cheers, sam

I had a fuel leak in the return line of a different car once. The fix was quite easy - cut the rusty area back to decent metal, then fit a piece of flexible hose that goes on nicely with jubilee clips. Its not under any more than a tiny pressure, so it will be fine with flexi and jubilee clips (and for the MoT too).

I guess, see you next month there then?

Well :D

After a bit of messing around, tug this bit here, check this bit there, I decided to rip out the whole fuel lines from pump to fuel rail!

After mild inspection, they were in a very bad way generally, so decided to ditch the lot.

Will set to it next week, get some rubber or braided fuel hose and hopefully get a hydraulics shop to crimp the correct fittings to it.

Experience with the disco so far is that the pipe fittings seem to be regular and sensible, so I should be able to have some nice pipes made up with the correct fittings in the correct places!!

Yeah hopefully see you next month Paul. I've had 2/3 months of constant breakages, either on or off road, so if i can't make it you know why it is!! :D

Cheers.
