Went to see a highly recommended welder today, he's an old boy who is just about to retire and knows a thing or two about Range Rovers, particularly L322 rust points.
It was only a quick look visit ahead of the work to do, but he straight away asked me to get my son to remove ALL the plastic bits rearward from the drivers door (saving the labour charges) so he can see exactly what is required, he will NOT just do an MOT job. As he said MOT inspectors are only obligated to test what they see and so a whole heap of rust can just be hiding behind the plastic. It can be bodged to get the MOT, but if you are going to do it why not do it properly? I did a fair bit of welding when I was young and know that the way the bloke wants to go is the correct one. A fleecer he is NOT, rather that rare breed of mechanic someone who takes a pride in their work! Will do pictorial updates as we progress, first thing I did was to buy one of these so he has a reference point to weld on to if needed....cheap as chips at £30, quick clean up and a bit of stone chip it'll look brand new. structual support.jpg

A rare breed indeed, looks like you've struck gold.
Shame he is retiring, good luck to him. I expect he's made a good living from LR products :rolleyes:
