Just got a new belt but I cant quite get it over the alternator pulley even with the tensioner fully pulled back. Are they a very tight fit ? Have been assured it is the right belt for my V8 discovery 1995.Never fitted one before and have double checked the routing. So can anyone help please.

I just changed my alternator and I did find even the old belt was a tight fit to get back on. I would imagine a new belt would be even worse.

Get someone to pull the tensioner for you as 2 hands might be easier.

The only problem I found was that the new belt was so stiff and springy so kept jumping of the pullys but it still only took 10mins to fit.

Vougese39 is correct, I got my replacement from LR parts dept and had to go back out and get the number on the existing belt because there are two types. So if you are still having a problem then you or your supplier will have to cross reference the part number of your old belt to the one you have now to confirm you have the correct replacement.

Are the 2 belts very close in size though? From what he is saying he cant quite get the belt on, but it sounds more like a pain of a fresh belt on an awkward engine.

Thanks, got our son to hold the tensioner fully back while I just managed to get the belt on to the alternator pulley. The tensioner sprung back when the belt was on so I guess it was just a new belt thing, would be interesting to see the other belt mentioned to compare lenths.

Good for you I needed both hands to fit the belt and an elbow to hold the tensioner back as I don't have any little helpers or big ones for that matter, I may not have to do it again as the old belt was 11 years old :)
