HI, im looking for someone in the Grantham area who may be able to have a look at the wiring on a 1980 series 3, cant get the indicators to work, were working now stopped, any help would be appreciated / compensated, thanks.

Have you checked the fuses. Unlikely to be that unless your temp gauge isn't working either. Try reseating the fuse. It's under the steering column. Next have a look at the cancelling switch. It's the mechanical one which activates the indicators under the plastic cover in front of the steering wheel, two screws hold it. Check the connections for the front wiring behind the radiator plastic panel they can come apart or loose. Avoid taking this kind of problem to an auto electrician; it's a waste of money.

Hi - I have a 1982 S3. My recent efforts to get my indicators working might be relevant.

My S3 doesn't have an indicator relay but a transistorised switch with four wires attached to it. While sorting out another wiring problem I had a big short - melted wires and much smoke. So afterwards, when I found the indicators were not working, I thought I must have knocked out the transistors. I bought a new one off ebay (like this) and attached all the wires. No joy. Not a flicker. So then I did what I should have done in the first place, and tested continuity from the earth lead (terminal marked 31) to the body work. Not connected. After I had reattached the earth, everything was back in commission.
