2.2 ohm resistor across the plug.

I don't know where you got 2.2 ohms from Tony but that would not work on either of mine under test.

Common to BMW other ratings are available for little money.

Ah, I din't write that very well, so you misunderstood, 2.2 ohms did not work. Making the correct value up from resistors is I'm sure cheaper than BMW prices.

2.2 ohms is the value quoted as being suitable for P38 1994 to 2002. I know no more than that.

I never found a figure anywhere when I was looking, so I did it by trial and error with a precision potentiometer.

They are for sale on Ebay. Various values for various cars. I have never done it so don't know more than that. Tooling is available pretty cheap to determine the correct value needed.
