Hi,
This year we had our Defender 110 stolen. This got us thinking about our previous Defender that we sold several years ago. She was a grey 90 reg. FX52 YCT. I have checked the DVLA site and I see that she has had no tax or MOT for the last couple of years. I was wondering if anyone here owns her now?
Thanks

Just guessing but as the tax ran out 8 nths before the mot I would say its likely something has happened to it, ie written off/stolen
Always worth putting an alert on ebay etc for 2002 td5 defenders, you never know.

ebay's a good idea. I thought it may have been stolen but I did a free search for this and it said it hadn't. However I need to pay for a check if I want to find out if she has been written off. I looked at the MOT history and there had been a few fails and quite a few advisories so I wondered if it was off the road the moment. At least this is what I am hoping. Fingers crossed she's still out there somewhere on a SORN.

You used to be able to get them really cheap car checker apps, from memory something like 2/3 quid a car for stolen/written off info.

Other thing is maybe its on a private plate, again Im assuming a car checker would tell you this, but if the private plate has been on for a couple of years maybe it cant find the old original plate?
So you would need the private plate reg for the search and not the old number?

Contact the dvla they have a form you can fill in and they contact the registered owner and pass on your details and if the owners what to contact you they can.

Oh, it's a paid service as well so it will cost you.

From my experiance with car checks,

If it was written off whilst on a private reg it will not show untill you enter the chassis number,

And I checked an old car of my wife's that I know is still around locally as a test, all I got was no details held, but I know it's on a private reg now and I used its original, and I tired my vans original reg as its now on a private and I got no details held

I did a check on my 1st defender 90 and it was the same as yours, tax ran out 8 months befor the mot and not been on the road since and wasn't sorn,

I did a quick check on yours and it comes back as not taxed ect, but it doesn't say it's sorn which suggests something has happened to it, if it had been transferred on to a private reg it would say no details held

Thank you everyone. I hope nothing as happened to it as it would be nice to get her back in the future if that was an option. My husband wonders if it being used as an off-road only vehicle? We have decided to try the DVLA and see what they say.

Just remember it won't be the same vehicle you got rid of, a bit like going back to an old girlfriend (or boyfriend in your instance), a bit more wear and tear / used and abused by the last owner

I would be very surprised if a 14 year old defender was an off road car only as its still worth good money, I would guess 5/6/7k as a plain jane motor and 10k plus for a station wagon if not considerably more.

The previous owner of my 110 TD5 CSW traded it for another 4x4.
They've emailed me about ten times over the last two years asking me if l will sell it back to them.
But it's a lovely 110, the best l've seen, and if l sold it l'd need to find another, the only ones l've seen as good are twenty. (The grey one at Silkstone for instance)
As l paid fourteen two years ago from the dealer he sold it to l guess he was probably given twelve.

I told them as much, but they kept making offers and l eventually blocked their email as it was getting a bit freaky.
I guess the dealer must have passed on my details as l never heard from the DVLA.

I did feel sorry for them, but "Elsa" is not really for sale!
Well....not for what they were offering. Prices have risen in the last two years.

I know exactly how you feel. Im always hunting for a Series 3 Lightweight, OAW89P, which is my Dad's Landy that he had for around a year or two when I was about 10. It gave me the bug that i've rekindled with the 90 and Disco that i've bought in the last year. I'd love to find that old beast and rebuild it - it had a v8 in it and no sensible cooling system so it was terribly unreliable, plus my dad wasn't mechanical with it at all. Just to see his face when I bring it up the drive!
