Scottish Cross Country Championship- Round Five Bathgate - Marshals Needed
Well its four weeks to go to the Fifth Round of the Scottish Cross Country Championship @ Bathgate on the 22nd/23rd August. This is the second two day event of the year and includes a night section late on the Saturday night/ Sunday Morning. For those of you who haven't been to Bathgate before this is a very large site and accordingly it allows course builders to really use there imaginations when constructing a challenging comp course. So with no doubt this will be an event not to miss. As ever in order to make this event as successful as previous events we need Marshals to staff the event.
I appreciate there are lots of event needing help, but we would really appreciate your help in Marshalling the event. This will allow us to provide the best length of course for the event, at Drumclog we had extra mileage all set up but had to shorten the course due to a lack of help. Please support us.

Bathgate is located here:

The provisional time line for the event:

Friday the 21st August 2009 11.00hrs Setup commences on site.
Saturday the 22nd August 2009 09.00hrs Signing on Commences for Marshals.
12.00hrs Marshals Briefing.
13.00hrs Session 1- Racing Commences.
Saturday the 22nd August 2009 21.00hrs Session 2- Racing Commences.
Sunday the 23rd August 2009 11.00hrs Session 3- Racing Commences.

There is Free camping available on site and Toilets will be provided. This year the campsite will be up on the high ground of the hill using the top entrance to the site, so ground conditions should be a lot better for all.
For this event I have organized a hot drink facility for marshals, there might event be a microwave, this will be in one of the club marquees and will be free for marshals to use.
Marshals training: Were organizing a marshals training session on the Saturday morning, the content of which I will be announcing shortly. This will be MSA Accredited so will count for licence signatures. There will be a requirement to pre-book a place on the training, to ensure that we have enough training material available on the day.
Bathgate is a great site and a great social event for all the family. For those of you who don’t get off road much, there’s an opportunity for you to take your vehicle off road to get to your marshal positions and after the event you can drive the remainder of the course when exiting & striping the stage of furniture. However to help at Drumclog its not necessary to have a 4x4, as there a various jobs/ marshals posts that can be accessed by a road going vehicle. Alternatively we can pair you up with another marshal who does have a 4x4.
Experience, where it’s good that you do have some experience of marshalling at a motorsport event, it’s not a prerequisite. As we welcome help from anyone whether experienced or not. Just let me know and I will pair you up with a suitably experienced Marshal.
In addition to having a fluorescent vest for all sessions, we ask that all marshals attending Session 2 –Night Comp have a torch and sufficient batteries for the duration.
Can you help?
Please let me know if you can help or have questions about the event give me a call or email:

Thanks, Colin

Well what a weekend, whether it was the high winds, the rain, the mud, the soap box race, the motorsport or simply the great atmosphere, there was something to remember for everyone this weekend. We had a great entry from competitors from both North and South of the Border, a few with new toys, some simply new to the comp scene full stop, either way you all seemed to enjoy the event.

Well with the weather forecast for the weekend, seriously trying hard to ensure that conditions were challenging and not forgetting that last year we had to cancel the Sunday session, we were very pleased to be able to run all three sessions with only a few minor changes to the original planned course. I was really pleased to see lots of familiar faces and lots of new ones that had come to help make the weekend possible, on Saturday we signed on 72 marshals with a further 24 being signed on Sunday, making a total of 96 over the whole weekend. With a few marshals having come up to help from south of the border and from conversations I had with people all really enjoyed there weekend.

We appreciate that conditions were difficult in getting off the course on the early hours of Sunday morning. We know racing stopped not long after One and it was 3am by the time we got everyone back to the service area, but thank you to everyone who stayed out to ensure that all got home safely.

Thank you from myself and Ian for coming and helping this weekend and making this another great Scottish Cross Country Championship Round to Remember.

The competitors all donated lots of prizes for the marshals draw and with the eventual winner of the event John Cockburn donating a ride in the passenger seat of his vehicle, on the next Comp Safari he enters. We did the Draw at the event prize giving, however a few were still out on the course, I will post the list up later and give me a shout as I have the remaining prizes to distribute.

Tax Disc -

Did you loose one at the event, if you did I have it, please call me on 07767-726075 or email [email protected]

Thanks again.

Colin.
