Hello all,
My 05 L322 Diesel has a sat nav problem in that it no longer seems to know where I am.

Yesterday whilst out it put my position about 50 miles off and at one point it thought we were in the sea.

I have been in the hidden system menu, self test results in 80 - 3A, under GPS it states none and if I look at GPS signals it shows all satellites but no signal strength for any

Sorry half my post disappeared, does the above indicate the gps receiver in the shark fin has died or is there something else I should check.

If it is the reciever is there an option to swap it for a generic one or do I have to get a RR original?

Thanks

I take it you have checked in the rear cubby for dampness and/or cruddie connections.

I had water ingress which wiped out the phone BT module, I took everything out, dried it out, replaced the BT module and fitted a plastic bag over everything, luckily it hasn't got wet again since. Where does the GPS antenna plug in so I can check the connections?

Sorry I don't know, but probably in the back cubby somewhere but still worth looking a all connections if it has been wet before.

I just took the Sat Nav DVD drive, which I believe is also the computer, out and checked the connectors and they are all clean and dry so I think it has to be the antena. I see a new one can be had for £125 so I'm going to look to see if I can't find a cheaper alternative. I'll post back what I find out.

Thanks

Thanks BackinBlack, I watched that earlier so at least I know I can get it off, looking at the roof it isn't really tight on the back and there is water around it but I was out in the rain earlier.

I read on another forum it is possible to replace it with a cheap GPS module for less than a tenner. Going to buy one and plug it in to see if it works, if so I will look at fitting it into the existing shell or other location on the car.

So went on my favorite auction site and for the princely sum of £7.31 bought an active GPS antenna with Fakra-C cable. Popped the SatNav unit out of the rear equipment area and connected it in place of the roof mounted one. I instantly got reception from 6 satellites and working GPS with new antenna on the boot lid outside the car. So I guess the roof mounted one is toast. I can get fair reception with the thing on the rear parcel shelf but no way to get the cables back to the sat nav unit without drilling holes. I'm going to either remove the existing one and fit the new one in it's place inside the shark fin or see if it will work if installed in the rear spoiler as it is plastic.
