Hi Lads,

I've got sailsbury in with extended shackles ground off mounts and assembled and put in car. I've not welded mounts yet, but was looking for a little help...

Couple of questions

1 Anyone know how much difference in lenght of propshaft (I will move engine forward this amount)

2 Angle of prop is WAY different, anyone got any smart ideas how to get angle correct i.e as near as straight as possible. (maybe someone who has done disco axle conversion?)

I'm using milner conversion plate for V8 and engine mounts which tilts up engine alot, so works to my advantage.

I was thinking of loosining hoops and jacking nose of diff till it lines up, but anyone has done this and has good sugestion would be more than welcome.

Oh idea of moiving enigne forward is to clear bulkhead a little....

thanks

What I did to line the rear diff was get it all sat in place in the Landy and left the ubolts loose enough to be able to move the diff nose up and down. With the prop on you can then line it up to what you want, tighten the ubolts up so it dosn't move and then weld the seats on. ;)

Thanks Jon,

Figured that was the case. Any idea's on prop shaft lengh? Do you know how much longer nose on your disco axles are over series, and did you chop down original?

Why do that, your'll be strapped for front end space as it is with a v8 in the engine bay. When i put my salisbury axle in to my swb i had to shorten it by about 2" which i did myself, no need to pay a pro company to do it as its quite a easy and straightforward task.

Couple of reasons, firstly most obvious, with shorter prop for every inch of suspension travel on shorter prop the prop has to move more, and less prop movement is better for longer prop life.

Also Milner kit moves engine up about 3 inches over standard so bulkhead surgey is pretty involved i want to try and limit this.

only an idea at moment....

I fitted extended shackles and parabolix, so prop anlge might ot be an issue, I will check over weekend. either way, just keeping option open

A few years ago I built a v8, 80 inch trialer with the range rover 4 speed box on parabolix and extended shocks.[lots of axle movement]Rear shaft was very short[less than a foot] did raise nose of sailsbury as above, but this was not enough to line up the prop so I lowerd the gearbox mounts a couple of inches to get prop straight at nomal standing position. Also used a shortend series shaft as they have larger journals,It all worked fine.

My prop fitted cos the disco axle uses the same rover diff that the series axle uses. I would leave the gearbox/engine in the same place and shorten the rear prop because once you've got the engine mounted and the rear axle set up the rear prop will be in line so you shouldn't have too much hassle with uj angles.
If you move everything forward the front prop will have to be shortened and that's the one that's gonna give you all the hassle with uj angles.
Because you're fitting the V8 the front of the engine is lifted up which also lifts the front of the transfer box up and fitting paras and long shackles drops the back of the springs down (front axle) which also drops the diff nose down, so the prop is at quite an angle. If you shorten the front prop I don't think it will work due to the greater angle it will be at

Aggre with V8jon do not shorten front prop. when I lowerd gearbox mounts this did increas front prop angle a bit,but it did not cause a problem however I was again useing a series prop.I mention all this just to show how far you can go.

Nice one lads!!!!!!!!!!

Good advice listerned too!

Can anyone give me pictures of bulk head trannie tunnel?
