I'm sorry guys but enough is enough.

I've recently posted about the fuel probs on my M reg 300tdi Disco. That was totally my fault.

Anyway that's sorted now.

I then posted to say that after sorting the fuel I drove just down the road and went over a speed ramp and the front nearside suspension strut sheared at the bottom.

So this morning I've phoned around for a new strut and I was setting off to buy one and fit it.

I've been having some early morning starting problems lately and was convinced that I need a new battery and was going to get one of those marine jobbies for about 80 quid. Car wouldn't start again this morning from cold.

Last night I'd gone out and started him last thing. He started ok but I noticed that the rev counter wasn't working? It stayed at about 500 revs and then would flicker and work for a second and then back to stuck on 500.

So I'm thinking damp on the connector at back of alternator or maybe new alternator?

So this morning before I even crank him I put voltmeter across battery ... 12.7v ... seems ok? So I then have to resort to jumping him off a spare battery I keep charged as he wouldn't start on his own. So he starts and is ticking over. Voltmeter now reads 14.5v so again alternator seems fine. Rev counter is intermittent?

I set off to go fetch new strut.

Half a mile down the road and there's an awful, far too familiar clunking from under bonnet.

I'm dreading lifting the bonnet and having a look.

Last winter .... exactly the week before Christmas ... there was the same awful noise. It turned out to be the crank pulley. The keyway had worn away. I ended up repairing it and fitting a new nut and did the timing whilst in there. I had lots of help off here and it was debateable whether the repair would last. The alternative to a bodged repair was a replacement engine or new crankshaft fitted ... both those options were going to cost more than the car was worth.

Anyway ... I get bonnet up and take off the aux belt. Yup ... the crank pulley is wobbling all over the place again . So that repair has lasted 12 months.

So he needs the suspension doing ... not major ... couple of struts for 30 - 40 quid. Probably a new battery ... 80 quid ( although that may be the alt not charging due to slipping belt due to crank pulley issue? ).

The big issue is the crank pulley again.

The MOT is due in a couple of weeks and so is the tax.

Last MOT he passed with no work. However the guy ( who I know and may have been lenient ) said that he had to advise that the sills were going to need serious welding work and also some welding to chassis. I knew the sills were shot and was amazed he passed it. So probably 200+ worth of welding that I would have to coff for as I don't have a welder etc. Plus whatever it failed MOT ... plus the cost of the test.

So MOT test, welding, suspension, battery ... looking at 400+ there and that's before the crank pulley issue. Boot floor has a hole in it as well now so more welding there?

So I just think enough is enough.

It's a shame as I've really enjoyed having him. I've just spent on a rear trailing arm, new shaft and seal on injector pump and tyres all round ( not new but matching 5mm all round ).

Local weighing in place says they give 165 per tonne. So I'll get over 300.

Anyone know what a 300tdi Disco weighs?

If anyone wants him to repair and wants to give scrap value then he'll be here until tomorrow. At the moment he starts and runs but I don't know how long before that crank pulley gives in and then there will be no servo or cooling.

Put it on ebay, 3 day auction, explain your reasons and say it must go, start bidding at £300 and I would be surprised if you didn't get it sold.

Due to the time of the year etc, it might not be the best timing for a lot of people but I am sure you could get £300 and it will be going to a home where parts may get used, or someone will put it right again.

I'd love him to be put right or be someone's Greenlaner.

Best scrap offer so far is 365 quid and that's just up the road and cash in hand. For me to sell on Ebay and get that much I'd have to sell for 400+. I can't see anyone giving me that?

I may just buy a makeshift banger to get around in for a few weeks. Then look around for a decent Disco. Then I can see how the new Disco goes for a while and use any parts that I need off mine and then scrap what's left of mine.

get another take all the good bits off yours then you either scrap it anyway but with the good bits on your new car or find a friend with space and sell the spares individually on ebay when you've had enough scrap whats left. If you were closer I'd let you leave it here in the woods but surrey is a bit far to go for parts lol
