Im sure this question has been asked many times. But i would like an up-to-date response :)

I found some rust on my landrover :( It is letting water through (i think) from under the vent to the footwell.

The rust seems to be bubbling under the paint.

How can i treat this ?

nothing has really changed.

  1. cut it out, weld some metal on and repaint.
  2. rust curer (vatcan, kurust, phos acid) filler, paint
  3. really bodge it, silicon the hole right up

Perfect, will give it ago. On the bit that is affected in the footwell.

What about the bubbling under paint rust. As i saw on the Krust site you cant apply to areas that have paint on them?

Yes you'd have to remove the paint all round the rusted area to treat the metal. But bear in mind that if it is bubbling beneath what looks like undamaged paint it may well be rusting through from the other side.

yeah, you still need to remove all the paint and loose rust off. you'd be best off attacking the area and see what you've got, post up a pic if you need help :)

Okay dokey, will have a better look in the daylight. Sadly now the clocks have changed i only have about an hour of light each night :(

I've just looked it up for you. It's a bit like the chromaflair paint that changes colour depending on the angle you look at it, but rust is a more permanent change of colour. :pound:

It usually starts to feature on vehicles over 10 years old, so it will never be problem for Gaylander owners as their FL1s are Heinz Soup cans by that age.

dunno aboot them gaylander thingies but my Freelander is nearly 14 :)

and shows no sign of this strange tratter affliction :p

anywhere
