I've had to remove my front prop last week as the viscous unit had siezed (suprise suprise).I've been offered another coupling by a friend who says its ok but don't really fancy taking a chance. Is there any way to test a unit thats removed from the box,and also can anyone recommend the best place to source a new replacement.

TOP NOTCH place & TOP NOTCH service

Keith

Hi Keith,

Is all plus VAT with ashcroft though isn't it? Thought Fett might have found a cheaper place.

I have considered the ashcroft route, but they do a whole recon transfer box for only a couple hundred more so I might save for that instead (assuming it comes with a new VC, of course)

Guy

Thanks guys,Ashcroft was the name of the place i'd been trying to remember.I might try the used one first i suppose as its easy to fit.

I am going a bit senile but I think it was paddocks I saw that in , but I would trust ashcrofts more than paddocks lol.

Thing about fitting a whole new transfer box is its the labour that costs but a v/c is cheaper to fit.

I would go for a good used v/c to start with and if it works you have saved some cash but if not you havnt lost alot!:D

1/2 Hour .....45 mins TOPS!!! (assuming you've got a Ramp ....) if not allow 2 to 3 hours .....

If yer Mrs is at home when yer doing it ..... take an old Cushion under the car with yer.............Then you can have an hours KIP in the sun & she'll think you've bin workin real hard + It'll get yer out of doin the Gardening or the MILLION other jobs she wants yer to do!!!!!

Speaking from past (bitter) experience, be very wary of used VCU's. I don't know of any way they can be checked 'off' the vehicle & their service life seems to be something of an unknown quantity.
