got an RR Classic today and its in pretty good condition, needs a couple of things doing but nothing major, anyway ive noticed the heating controls are a little strange, air will blow out of the top vents facing the windscreen but when you set air to come out of the vents facing the passengers the flow is rather weak, well next to nothing really, also the fan continues to blow air with the switch in all positions except when you switch it to the Air Conditioning snowflake symbol and then the fan turns itself off and doesnt blow cold Air Conditioned air, any ideas what it might be?.

The controls are vacuum operated - look for the "ball" in the front right-hand part of the engine bay. Should have 2 black vacuum linees going in to it. Follow them back and look for splits. Could just be one of them has come off. That's all that was wrong with mine.
Not sure about the aircon - don't have that luxury in mine. :)

thanks for that, i will have a look around tomorrow and see if everythings ok under the bonnet, the reason the A/C isnt working is apparantly there are 2 fans to blow air in the cars that have A/C installed, one is in the dash for the normal heater and one is under where the glovebox(in a different car) would be, the latter doesnt look like its connected on mine, so will get around to sorting it out at some point before next summer when i might actually need it.

Its the same on mine, you can get plenty of hot air from the top vents but when you select the forward facing vents you only get cold? theres a re-circulating heater on mine which is vacuum controled but i cna't see anything else.

Basically you have a three speed fan operated by the right hand horizontal lever in conjunction with the right hand vertical lever giving air to the windscreen and side windows.(up position)and the footwells in the down position. The horizontal lever on the left side is used in conjunction with the air conditioning lever(up position)either taking air from outside the vehcle or recirculating the air inside.(next to snowlake symbol ) The black vents that are facing you can be opened or closed via the middle switching knob.
These vents are only in use when the air con is operating, and yes I too found it a bit strange whe I first got my classsic. You fully expect warm air to be expelled from them as in other vehicles you have owned.Leaving both the left and right hand levers at the 9 and 3 o'clock position is a happy medium. Also if you say that the air con fan isn't working ,it is not uncommon for the fan belt on the compressor to be disconnected(extra mpg).If the belt is connecteted does the clutch actuate whe a/c is selected.I take it you do not have an owners hand book?

the belt is connected to the compressor and as far as im aware it engages as when i switch it to the AC position, the vacumn noise starts etc, the only issue is the fan that blows the air through the vents isnt operating.
am i right in thinking that the air conditioning is always working on a Classic then, or does the compressor only engage when the lever is in the snowflake position, so if i engage the cold symbol next to it, the hot one next to that or the recirculating symbol the air conditioning isnt engaged and draining extra power and fuel?.

With the slider to the snowflake position select a blower speed .This then,
engages the aircon .Move the slider from the snowflake position to the extreme right and the air con is off. Then switch off the blower.
Simply by selecting the snowflake does not automatically give you the aircon you need to use the blowerr as well..

I don't have air con on mine but it just seems a bit stupid not to be able to blow warm air from the front facing vents but if thats how its designed to be than so be it.

I couldn't agree with you more ,but am only relating to how mine works.

i agree with you, does seem a bit of a strange design, still ive not felt cold in mine just blowing air from the top vents.
