Hi. I'm looking at getting myself a roof tent, but don't want to shell out a grand on an expedition roof rack. Can anybody recommend a sensible alternative? I have friends in SA with Toyota Hilux double can so use standard roof bars, unsure if this will be suitable for a Disco 2. Any ideas?

I use Thule. Just drilled two holes in each and boom. Tent on car. Second had 45 quid on eBay. I will be selling these ones when I do get around to a roof rack but that's atleast 6/7 months away yet. Need to get married first....( I no I no I'll have no money after that but there's a plan. The car is the honeymoon ;) ) let us know how you get on.

Lekker! Planning on doing a trip though the whole of the UK so hoping to tent it (if I can convince the waaaaf!).

Yes auf. It holds itself up same as the awning. Ladder is only there to get in and out.

Sean the wife will love it. It's more comfy than my bed at home!

Well I'm not sure in max load but it's had me and the mrs init. 165kg between us... On a fairly Regular basis.

And one night at the pub we got a little bit drunk and managed to get 4 of us in there at I'd guess atleast 330/350 kg.

I wouldn't recommend not having the ladder
There as it does take some of the weight when it's there... I was just saying it doesn't need to be.

It's hannibal. After years of searching and looking at many I'd have this or howling moon. nothing else. IMO comes
Close for what I want. You get exactly what you pay for. Unless you decided a floor based oztent. Look good and probably are in Australia or warmer countries. But they seem to leak like fook.

Wow - impressive. I always thought the ladder was an essential support.

I use rhino bars for my roof tent on my defender.
