Currently running my 2004 xtech on standard suspension boost alloys & 16" AT..starting to tune a bit, so could do with a 2nd setup for those periods when i'm keeping purely to the black stuff.

Wondered if/how easy i could run a road setup on bigger wheels that would mean i could keep same suspension setup (i.e not lowered)... but swap relatively easily, but not look out of place?

What would work, if anything?

Run on 18's with a/t's some that are a 60/40ish split road to tarmac, the tread block sizs and shape being more road biased will make them quiter and better handling on the black.
the reduction in sidewall height will make the handling much sharper but by staying at a sensible size wheel sidewall shouldnt be so small that ride comfort suffers imo

out and out road handling 20" wheels but the ride comfort may suffer! Just stick with the 16" AT's. I run MT's on the road daily

275/40's my grip better but they don't handle better, a degree of flex in the side wall is better.

My Td5
Standard 255-55-18
Currently 275-40-20

The ride is really hard and wanders with such wide tyres its something you get used to. Pushed hard in to corners and the 275 will hold on then skip/slide, where as you could feel the roll in the 255's which IMO gives you a much better handling point of view.

Also IMO the 20" wheels do look nicer on the D2 but they do have down sides.

On my other Discovery as 95 V8 ES it has 235-70-16s with off road tires being 750-16, am looking to change the 235-70's for some 235/245-75/80's.

Road tyres do make a massive difference and if you did want to retain the standard size there is many road based ones to look at depending how you like the tyre to feel.

Unskilled cornering wont really show a difference, even proving the larger tyre wall gives an extra warning before traction loss!!

a good 16" rim with a decent a/t tyre such as a cooper ....

top brand tyres are worth it for the road if you have a farm set to go with them,.i use dumper truck remolds daily at work but on the road for holidays etc i use bfg AT TA 265 75 ,there on a disco rim.

they save fuel and wear on transmission so i try use em all summer but as soon as any rain comes there a sack of **** in a wet field.
