Evening Folks, right, a bit of an odd question. What is the plastic cover for on the right hand wing top? On the left hand side, I can see it is the air intake for the heater.

Is it used as an access panel or is it leftover from an older Defender model. As far as I can see, there so no purpose for it on my 2011 Defender.

See I have paint. But is diffent colours ;)
Makes it easier to wipe the tea up.
& its a 300 wing with the side vent blanked.

It looks good on a Landy and I can put my tools on it when working on it etc.....
Where as I disagree with that, I am not a fan of the look, it does protect the wings from spanners, engine parts, the dog etc.

Why fit chequer plate?
The correct answer to your question is so you can stand on it to load the roof rack without leaving lots of dents in your wings, same reason I have it fitted to the bonnet :p

I sort of agree, but the wings have holes from chequer plate already, so I'm a bit stuck unless a pair of wing tops come along at a reasonable price.....

If the holes are already there, fit new plate but don't go mad like some the off-roaders who cover the thing with it.

I've just taken the chequer plate off the bonnet. Luckily the Puma bonnet is steel and welding up holes is easy enough with a brass spoon. I'll then repaint it.

I'd weld the holes in the wings, but I'm not sure how easy it is to plug weld holes in ali.

Not easy at all unless you are something of an expert. I think most people patch underneath with the hole and then use filler to get a smooth finish.
