Replacing rusty side cappings on a 90

Hi there, i have very rusty side cappings under the rear windows of my 1992 90. can I ask for opinions from those that have replaced the cappings as to how big a job it is. Lack of a drive and garage plus working away a lot mean I was planning on using a local body shop to lift the roof and replace the cappings. Outside of materials and paint, they have quoted 16 hrs labour!!! I've said this is absolutely crazy, however, I would like to go back with an accurate list of what is entailed in order that they can revise their quote to something more realistic. What do they need to do, and how many hours is realistic? If anyone has used a garage to do the job, how much did you pay, any recommendations in the Gloucestershire area most welcome. Cheers.

Gave mate a hand to get some old ones off a tub at the weekend, drilling the rivets easy bit, actually getting the cappings to release from the sealant was a right pita!
You dont need a drive or a garage just half tidy weather
Assuming everything comes undone cant see why it cant be done in a day ie 8 hours, thats no paint etc just spannering and swearing.

Agree with lynall. Removed all but tub (only cause weight) myself and I'm a novice.

A few of us did Pikeys 110 cappings at the Bristol&West show last year. Probably 5 or 6 hours altogether

Thanks all, blue beastly, I'm just outside of Stroud, I've got a new bulkhead going on the week after next at AJ Bulls (think you may have recommended him), so was thinking of asking him for a price, but thanks for the generous offer, it's a matter of lack of time for me spending a full day on it over the next few months. Garage in Nailsworth quoted 16 hrs labour, can you list the main parts of the job, I'd like to go back to him with what needs doing in terms of bolts to undo roof to lift etc and see what he says as they have done work on my company car and I'm really happy with the quality. Its a really simple job tech wise, bolts out over screen, along the tub, seatbelt mounts and any wires etc you have between body and roof. Drill out rivets, clean off gunky stuf, new seal, pop cappings back on and rivet up. Then it's just plopping the roof back on and bolting up again.

Alister will give you a fair price but he's a wasted talent on what is 90% fiddling with reluctant bolts.

Thanks Blue Beasty, have you got any local recommendations for good spray shops, am looking to get a bonnet on ebay and get it painted up, think someone was practicing dancing or rugby scrums on mine!
