Greetings. I've bought some new drum brake adjusters for my new series 3 88". The old adjustment nuts may as well be circular. I'm gathering it'll be straightforward on the back wheels, but I have Selectro free wheeling hubs on the front. I'm wondering if just removing the 6 bolts will be enough to remove them as a unit so I can get to my brake drums and do the adjusters, or will they be a pain in the arse?

I'll probably buy some drive flanges, and get rid of the free wheelers, but I'm not sure yet whether I've got 10 or 24 splines (it's a 1980, v-reg. I think it will probably be 10 spline). I'll find out once I've got my hub gaskets and I'm ready to rock.

Do you need to take the hubs apart to get to the adjuster? Can you not just take the drum off? The drum will slide over the top of the hub without any need to take the hub off.

ah, I didn't know that. I've done the wheel bearings on my 90 before, and I seem to remember taking the flanges off when doing that, and taking the circlip off the half-shaft etc.

Sounds like it might be easier than I thought! I'll probably get rid of the free-wheeling hubs at some point anyway though.

Anyone near the Forest of Dean want to swap for some normal drive flanges? ;)

Thanks for your reply :)

As stated above - just slide drum off - why make life harder than it already is?!

Nice little job really, good time to check your slave cylinders for weeping and your linings whilst your at it.

Thanks for the replies. It's a new vehicle (to me), so It'll definitely be good check the brakes, although they seem to work alright, just a lot of pedal travel before they respond :) Insured it earlier, and took it for a spin, and I like it. It's ridiculously bouncy going up hill, and the transmission is so loud in everything apart from 4th, but it's a nice runner :)
