Have an EAS compressor that is well worn and past its time. This is a compressor that came with the car from new in 1996, had the piston seal and cylinder replaced twice, and now with almost 200,000 miles / 320,000 kms, its time to say farewell.

Just wondering if anyone has ever replaced the original LR EAS compressor with either a Mercedes or a BMW unit as these are so much easier (and cheaper) to source used than an LR unit.

A new EAS compressor is about £160 I think from Island 4 x 4. There are lots of compressor upgrades about. As long as the compressor makes sufficient volume of air and can reach the required pressure, you can use what you like. However you would allow for the over temperature sensor and if the motor current is too high you would need to fit an auxillary relay.
The original compressor usually fails due to overwork feeding leaky airsprings.

Datetek, mine's worn from age.....literally. The shaft bearings are gone although it does put out enough pressure. As a result there is more vibration when the motor is running. I could do a re-build, but at over 300,000 kms, something has to give ............

And I know that the compressors from the Mercedes & BMW's have a far higher output rate, are a lot quieter in operation and draw far less current. Although I cannot at the moment ascertain of they are rated at 180psi or more like the original LR compressor.

Why bother. Get a new Dunlop one for £160.00 it will outlast your car.
