buy genuine LR, unless yer doing it to sell ! a £12 britpart piston wont last that long, its the quality of the alloy and the machining fer the rings ! i used genuine LR whan rebuiding mine, with no probs, well worth the money , yer see a few on ebay ocasionaly !

standard bore ! yeah round the £50 mark is ok, as some of the cheaper ****e is £39 upwards, think britparts are only £12 tho, enough said

If the bore hasn't been damaged by the melted piston and its debris it'll be standard bore :)

I've still to scrape the impacted aluminium from the head and see if that's buggered too.

head looks ok from the pic, might need to get a small wire brush in the drill and clean it up, replace the valves and grind them in , unless they clean up ok ,

dont buy anything britpart! My ujs are shocking and the steering damper ive replaced the bushes are perishing already ive done exactly no miles. Its SORN!

small world int it! been workin in stone fer a few weeks, is that where it went bang? or did yer drag it there to work on it!

Father in law dragged it there for me. He has much more space that I have here.

I picked it up cheap enough and if i get it running i'm going to try and convince her indoors to drive it :) if not, it'll become parts.

Indeed, but when you see things like this ERR2410 PISTON ASSY STD 300 TDI | shop | www.lrseries.com | L. R. Series

you can see why folks might be tempted to buy cheaper.

am not saying all brit part it **** , some things have been of good quality and worked really well, mostly petrol series and 90 parts i have had, but some look poor from the second you take them out of the box!

if its a quick job to get a sale, why not, put a brit part piston in , it might last 10k, but if its your motor that your rely on daily, go for genuine LR every time, i learned quick from cheapo copy parts letting me down

I've only bought two britpart items so far for my TD5. A fuel filter, and a sump drain plug that has a slightly undersized head. Both ok for the money, but not as important as a piston ;)
