HI, made the mistake of removing this from transfer box, see pic when I convereted to 2 wheel drive replaced it with a blanking plate, the world moves on and I'd like to reinstate 4 wheel drive how ever before I can I need ti replace, I don't even know what to call it, I suppose it's the coupling to the prop shaft.
Any ideas where I might get a replacement
cheers Entwhistle

The part is the IRD rear pinion.

Why do you need to replace it though? Did you throw it away?

If you still have it, the crown gear (to me) looks in good condition. If anything needs replacing on it, it would be the bearings. Gears are expensive, bearings are cheap.

i, because I was advised to by someone on this forum.

Unless your IRD thrust bearing had failed, there's no reason to remove the pinion. It'll just continue to spin, without driving the propshaft.

Hopefully you'll have the one you took out, as they're matched with the crown wheel, so fitting a second hand replacement will cause gear damage and noise.

You should get away with fitting a new one, but they're really expensive.

Thank you, I still have the original, The bearing has gone so I will need to replace that first.
cheers Entwhistle.

If the thrust bearing in the IRD has failed, then you'll need to get it repaired, but you'll need to refit the pinion first a reconditioning company will need a complete and assembled exchange unit.
