I want to remove the factory fitted side STEPS on my disco 2 2001 auto gs 5 seat. Is it easy to do? What sort of tools will i need for the job? How heavy are the skirts and if i buy the mud flaps online will i be able to fit them on OK?

If someone could tell me how, that would be sweet, i don't want to have to pay someone to do it if it's straight forward!

Thanks....

Hi, I presume that you mean the plastic sill cover ? This is realy easy and is a few bolts and then the round plastic plugs. These are removed by using a small screwdriver to lift out the central core and then the plug is free to pop out.
I don't know of any replacement mud flaps for the front ones that are integral in the side trim. You may have to cobble something yourself.
What are you replacing the trim with ? it will look awful with nothing there, and I assume you aren't putting tree sliders on.
Paul.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry for the confusion but what i actually meant was... The factory fitted side 'steps' and front mud guards, that came standard on a 2001 gs disco. Not the sill cover, don't want to remove that, that would look rubbish if i took those off i agree! I have these massive side steps and built in mud flaps, which look crappy. This is not my vehicle but as an example.. http://www.greenlandrover.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/dpp_1410-copy1.jpg

Do you know how to remove these? What tools would i need to get them off is it straight forward? I am new to this DIY stuff.

I went for the angle grinder approach sooo much more fun

I did to as mine wer rotten d1

i have just looked at dads d2 2002 gs and ther are 4 bolts it total 2 on each side unblot them and should slide od of the bracket...

i assume you have cleaned them and they will be rusted on lol but should take long to take of bud

hope it helps

anthony

Sweet cheers. The bolts are REALLY rusty and flaking. I'm going to spray them with Wd40 and leave it on for a few days. But to be honest don't think its going to do much, because the bolts are just crumbling to the max. Think im going to have to grind them off like you said. Its going to look better without them i reckon, improve ground clearance to. Thanks...

I removed mine with a view to sell them on via ebay. I had to angle grind the bolts off to remove the brackets but the spacers that replace the body mount bolts just are not budging. I am now left with a uselss set of side steps cause I cant sell them without the fixing kit. Doh!
Oh and yes, it looks much better without them. Side steps are for WAGS.
